    Ali earned a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1960, and a master's grad in 1967. In 1971, he earned a PhD in Aeronautics. From 1961 to 1972 Ali worked as an engineering officer in the Egyptian Air Force, specializing in maintenance and training.[2]
