Hazrat Pir Syed Meher Ali Shah Gilani(R.A) was born on 14 April (1 Ramadan, A.H.) in Golra Sharif,which is located midway between Rawalpindi and is renowned as a Sufi saint, a great Hanafi scholar and especially for being in the anti-Qadyani movement. He wrote numeral books most notably Saif e Chishtiyai, (The Sword of the Chishtis), a polemical work regarding the unorthodoxy and the heresy of the Qadyani movement of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (Lannatallahu Alay).

Mehr Ali received his early education of the Qur'an at his family khanqah. He completed his intermediate level religious education at local madrasa. His stay in this madrasah was for about 2 years.
