David Davidar was born in South India. A graduate of Madras University, Davidar worked as a reporter before moving into publishing. He was president and CEO of Penguin Books in India, before relocating to Toronto to assume the role of publisher, Penguin Canada, effective January 1st, beneath his direction, Penguin Indias publishing schema grew from six titles in to about one hundred and fifty titles annually. Indian novelist and publisher
David Davidar (born 27 September ) is an Indian novelist and publisher. He is the author of three published novels, The House of Blue Mangoes (), The Solitude of Emperors (), and Ithaca (). In parallel to his writing career, Davidar has been a publisher for over a quarter-century. He is the co-founder of Aleph Book Company, a literary publishing firm based in New Delhi.[1]
Personal life
[edit]David Davidar was born in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.[2] His father was a tea planter in Kerala, and his mother was a teacher. Davidar grew up in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and both states feature prominently in his fiction. He has one sibling, Ruth Swamy, a nutritionist and dietician.[3]
