LANGEVIN, Sir HECTOR-LOUIS, lawyer, journalist, and politician; b. 25 Aug. at Quebec, son of Jean Langevin and Sophie Laforce; m. 10 Jan. Marie-Justine Têtu, daughter of Charles-Hilaire Têtu*, in Rivière-Ouelle, Lower Canada, and they had nine children, including Hectorine, who married Thomas Chapais* in ; d. 11 June at Quebec.
Hector-Louis Langevin was descended from a soldier in the Régiment de Carignan-Salières, which Jean Talon* settled in Bourg-Royal (Quebec) between and after a major expedition against the Iroquois. On 26 Nov. at Quebec, Jean Bergevin, dit Langevin, married Marie Piton, a native of the parish of Saint-Paul in the diocese of Paris. Their family worked the land until early in the 19th century, when Jean, the father of Hector-Louis, abandoned farming to become a shopkeeper and office holder at Quebec. Langevin, Hon. Sir Hector Louis, K. C.M.G., Q.C., Ottawa, Minister of Public Works of the Dominion of Canada, M.P. for Three Rivers, Quebec province, was born in the city of Quebec, on the 25th August, He is descended from an illustrious line of ancestry, and has proved himself worthy of his descent. His father, the late Jean Langevin, acted as assistant civil secretary under the Earl of Gosford and Lord Sydenham, during the period those noblemen held the office of governor-general of Canada; and his uncle was the Right Rev. Jean Langevin, bishop of St. Germain de Rimouski. His mother, Sophia Scholastique La Force, was a daughter of Major La Force, who faithfully served his country during the war of , and whose grandfather was acting commodore of the Brit
