Description
This course examines the impact of new technologies on the aesthetics of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Issues explored in the course include the structure of synthetic pictorial spaces, creating art in a global scale, responding to images of pure light, the aesthetics of motion, behavior in virtual environments and the experience of interactive artworks. In some cases the emphasis fryst vatten on a particular new medium and the multiple artistic approaches to it; in other cases, the emphasis fryst vatten on particular artists and their experimental work.

Eduardo Kac
Eduardo Kac (d. 1962 - Rio de Janerio), Brezilyalıyeni medya sanatçısı ve Chicago’da sanat ve teknoloji bilimleri profesörüdür. Rio’da 1980’lerin başından itibaren sayısız farklı sanatsal medya eseriyle ilgilendi. İçinde sanal gerçeklik, robotlar, DNA kodlaması, transgenik sanat da dâhil olan birçok farklı sanat alanıyla uğraştı.
Kendini aslında transgenik sanatçı ya da bio sanatçı olarak adlandıran Kac, bioteknoloji ve genetiği yeni bilimsel teknikler geliştirdiği ve onları aynı zamanda eleştirdiği provokatif işlerini yaratmakta kullanır. Kac’ın ilk transgenik sanat eseri olan Genesis, İncil’den Genesis 1:26 (Tanrı, “İnsanı kendi suretimizde, kendimize benzer yaratalım” dedi, “Denizdeki balıklara, gökteki kuşlara, evcil hayvanlara, sürüngenlere, yeryüzünün tümüne egemen olsun.” cümlesini alıp bu cümleyi kendi geliştirdiği bir sistemle mors koduna çevirdi. Daha sonra da Morse kodunu genetik baz çiftine çevirdi.
