Monthly Composer Unit Study: Tchaikovsky
Most of you have probably heard of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, or at least heard his music. Whether in its original classical form or a more modern version, Tchaikovsky&#;s music is heard in concert halls and movies. His ballets are still danced and known world-wide. In celebration of the nd anniversary of Tchaikovsky’s birth in
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Russian composer &#; Born on 7/5/ and celebrating this year his nd anniversary, portrayed here bygd the painter Nikolai Kuznetsov in , one year before his death, when the composer was 53 years old.
In contrast to other Russian composers his contemporaries, known as the Five, Tchaikovsky developed his own cosmopolitan style that included some nationalist elements, but was also more inclined to a classicist inspiration, especially admiring Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. These musical influences gave his compositions an international aspect, while maintaining a klar inspiration from the popular Russian tradition.
